NECESSARY EVIL

IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A brunette has black demon’s horns, dark extended bat wings, and a crow or raven perched on one of her wings. A jewel on her forehead resembles a raven’s talon. She wears a full, brown skirt with slits to the knees, a light tank top, and spiky silver armor on her shoulders. She holds a black staff with a green jewel at the top. The background is the same sickly, miasmic green and includes lightning or wisps of smoke. The border around this image is white.

GREY DAY

IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Three people holding colorful umbrellas (yellow, purple, and green) hurry across tiles or wet and reflective flagstones. All three people have their faces obscured by their umbrellas, and all three are carrying suitcases or large bags. The grey tiles or flagstones extend to the white border of the picture.

FESTIVE DECOR

IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A bull’s head is framed by four purple doily prints. The bull’s horns have red covers embroidered in green and topped with red pom-poms. Teal and pale purple doily prints decorate its forehead. Gold outlines its eyes and golden designs appear on the tips of its ears. It wears a golden bridle adorned with golden and purple circles and similar circles appear on its ears like earrings. The whole image is bordered in grey-green and has a beige background.

Artist statement: Our souls aren't permanently trapped inside our bodies. Imagination gives it freedom sporadically. During those periods of liberty, it wanders to places that encompass reality and fantasy. These paintings are the places my imagination took me while I maintained sobriety. I was able to see myself as a warrior, maleficent yet kind. I was able to experience the world as a nameless beautiful flower. I was able to walk among strangers on a cold rainy day. I imagined what I'd look like as a bejewelled bull. I wondered what it would be like to enjoy the morning sun alone and deserted in the company of sunflowers, as a normal painting of suprematism. And of course, I found love.
