I WRITE MYSELF ETERNAL
How do I explain that I am wilder than the darkness?
The sky reaching out beyond the visible stars
lacing black fingers through the hair of nebulae,
caressing the curve of heavenly bodies
orbiting our obituaries with oval ellipticals.
Who understands that I am deeper than the
ocean at night, glinting the shimmer of the moon
back up as a one-eyed wink, flirting with eternity’s
dark gaze blinking wide open to the universe?
Where can I show them the scars on my body,
ropey and purple, lumped up and concave?
The braille of the body to be read by the
endless breeze of the solar wind, whistling
past me as I float in the silent expanse of space.
What can contain me when I have escaped
this flesh prison that can only carry me so far?
Only the unending boundaries of the universe
stretch far enough to encompass what I have become.
